So many monkeys!
For our last day in the Amazon we opted to go to the little town of Misahualli, known for their monkeys and beach! We found a fabulous restaurant for breakfast before leaving.

The bus ride there was about 40 minutes and the little town was so cute! We headed straight for the beach but along the way Maddie spotted some vendors selling cacao so she grabbed one of those and a little bag of fried cacao blanco that she has been telling us about. The cacao blanco were so good! Crunchy, salty little miracle food. We got to the beach and she cracked open the cacao pod like an expert and we had such a treat! Sweet, kind of like mangosteen but more citrus maybe. It was fabulous!

Auguste didn’t waste any time getting in the river. At this spot the Rio Misahualli connects with the Rio Napo…which eventually flows into the Amazon. The whole Amazon basic is a tapestry of so many different rivers. The current here was pretty storm and the temperature was perfectly refreshing!

After a refreshing swim, we went in search of a place for lunch and came upon some of the monkeys that call this area home. They are capuchin monkeys and hysterical to watch. The locals seem to have a love/hate relationship with them as they simultaneously chase them away and laugh at them. There’s really no stopping them from doing exactly what they want!

After lunch and more monkey watching, we caught a bus back to Tena!

Our last day was filled with on and off rain and our last night it POURED! Rain is just a constant part of life here where things never really dry out and nearly every day sees at least a few raindrops.
